Teacher Training Kicks off with History Lesson
On Wednesday, August 10, 2016, the history of Marked Tree was not only an interesting topic, but took center stage during the initial training of its staff members. "As teachers it is important we understand the background of our students which is rooted within the community; therefore, being conscious of the community's past as well as its present is essential," according to Annesa Thompson, Superintendent. She goes on to say, "Even though facts could be shared, they are much more meaningful when experienced, so teachers were divided into teams and provided a list of 'historical places, people or events' that each team was to visit and photograph before returning." The teams had about two hours to complete the activity. Afterwards, the group reflected on the experience and left knowing, possibly, more about Marked Tree than do many of its residents.
